The Grace of the Kovilakam

Grace of the Kovilakam

Shankarodath Kovilakam can be undeniably called Kavu’s (groves) Kovilakam since Sree Pulikkal Vishwanagayakshi Temple is located towards the northern side of the kovilakam in addition to being surrounded by 7 groves and 2 ponds. The temple, the groves and the ponds have their individual significance as well.

Sree Pulikkal Vishwanagayakshi Temple is abode to Nagaraja Swamy and his 2 consorts Vishwanagayakshi Amma and Sarpayakshi Amma. They are housed within a single Sanctum, making it one of a kind for Serpent worship. Vishwanagayakshi Amma is eminent here as she in a self- manifested (Swayambhu) embodiment in the Sanctum which continues to be worshipped till date. Another unique feature of the temple is the Pratishtha (idol) of Vishwanagayakshi Amma which has been made according to Vashista Rishi Samhitha with Ashta Bahus (Eight Hands) and Bhutasana (Amma seated on Bhutas). Therefore, those who pray to Vishwanagayakshi Amma with utmost devotion and ritual purity will have prosperity in wealth, marriage, and children.

The Serpent groves surrounding the Kovilakam are the perfect place for pilgrims to find panacea from Sarpashapam (Serpent curse), Sarpadosham (Serpent malefic effects), Parambarya doshas (family lineage malefic effects) and Graha Doshas of Rahu, Ketu and Kaalasarpam by following the complete observance of serpent worship rituals.

Veeraporkkali Amma residing at Sree Shankarodath Kavu with Ashta Maathrukkal and other retinues facing the north direction will provide significant relief from Shathru dosha, Kudumbha dosha (family doshas), Shalya Shaapadhis and Deha Peedas (health ailments) to her devotees praying with utmost devotion.

In short, Pulikkal Shankarodath Kovilakam is holy place encompassing the temples and serpent groves where devotees who come with utmost devotion can find shelter and peace for all their sufferings.
