Vishwanagayakshi Amma

Sree Pulikkal Vishwanagayakshi Temple is abode to Nagaraja Swamy and his consorts Vishwanagayakshi Amma and Sarpayakshi Amma. They are housed within a single sanctum, making it one of a kind for Serpent worship. Vishwanagayakshi Amma is eminent here as a self-manifested (Swayambhu) embodiment and an idol (Poorna) paradigm. Vishwanagayakshi Amma, the consort of Nagaraja Swamy is regarded as his 'Pattamahishi'. As the reigning Empress of Yaksha Kula, she is revered as the Matriarch of the Nagas. Having the sobriquets 'Banumathi Devi' and 'Nagamma', she is popularly know as Vishwanagayakshi Amma.  Having self-manifested (swayambhu) herself in the land of Pulikkal, Vishwanagaykshi Amma is of profound importance here.

Nagaraja Swamy is the son of Saptarishi Kashyapa and Kadru Matha thampathi. Being the avatar of Adi Shesha, he possesses both Shaiva aikyam and Vaishnava aikyam. He is consort to VishwanagayakshI Amma.

Sarpayakshi Amma is the second consort of Nagaraja Swamy. She is the mother of all Sarpas. She has the monikers 'Shembakakshi' and 'Sarpa Rani' as she is their sovereign. Since she governs and protects the Sarpas, she is held in high esteem and called 'Sarpayakshi'.
